Tips & Advice
Install rainwater tanks
Use rainwater collected from your roof of your home, shed or pergola to flush toilets or for watering the garden.
Watering your plants
Water the base of plants, not the leaves. By using watering cans or trigger nozzles on garden hoses you only water the areas that need it.
Plant selection
Find out which plants are most compatible with the climate and soil in your area. This can reduce water and help you maintain a healthy garden.
Washing your car
Wash your car on the lawn so that you water and fertilise the grass at the same time. Car shampoos use phosphates that are similar to many fertilisers.
Mulching
Reduce water evaporation by 70 percent by applying a layer of mulch around plants. Normally 7-10 cm will do the trick.
Cleaning
Always use a broom rather than a hose to clear driveways and pathways of debris.
Taps and Plumbing
Install aerators on taps to reduce flow through taps and get leaking taps or toilets fixed as soon as possible.
Water crystals
Add water crystals to soil to enhance water retention by up to 40 per cent.
